What is IPE?
The South Central Aids Education & Training Center (SCAETC), in collaboration with The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, has established a two-week Interprofessional Education (IPE) clinical rotation to promote interprofessional learning and team building in the context of best practices in the treatment of persons living with HIV.
Students in this program complete a didactic curriculum prior to beginning their two-week rotation. Students spend one week at Parkland Hospital and one week at the Amelia Court HIV Clinic to learn inpatient and outpatient HIV care. Students are encouraged to take a patient-centered approach to interprofessional care, participating in a patient interview and shadowing of patients through their healthcare journey. Students from various disciplines complete this rotation in collaboration with one another in order to further enrich their interprofessional education experience.
Participating institutions in this rotation include:
University of Texas Southwestern – Medical School
University of Texas Southwestern – Clinical Nutrition
University of Texas Southwestern – Rehabilitation Counseling
University of Texas at Arlington – Graduate Social Work
University of Texas at Arlington – Nurse Practitioner Programs
